Hougang is a mature estate with a good representation of both private and public housing. Residents of Hougang are well served by an abundance of amenities and park and recreational facilities. More enhancements are to be anticipated as stated in the Hougang Masterplan.

For instance, there will be a new integrated transport hub with the Cross Island Line MRT running through. Road improvement initiatives are being carried out at various roads in Hougang such as Upper Serangoon Road, Hougang Central to ease congestions.

In going green, the canal at Hougang Avenue 10 is undergoing the Active, Beautiful, Clean (ABC) Waters programme helmed by the PUB with the purpose of cleaning up the water for aesthetic and hygiene purposes.

For better job creation and economic reasons, Defu Industrial Park is planned for a makeover to create more capacity and a more pleasant working environment. A new lush industrial park at Lorong Halus is also being planned.
